WASHINGTON – The House has named a Capitol meeting room for Gabriel Zimmerman, an aide to Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and one of six people killed in January in a shooting attack that left the Arizona congresswoman severely injured.

The vote was 419-0.

Zimmerman, 30, handled community outreach for Giffords and was the first congressional staffer in history to be slain in the performance of his public duties.

The resolution to name the meeting room in the Capitol Visitor Center after Zimmerman was offered by Florida Democrat Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

She is a close friend of Giffords, who was shot in the head by a gunman outside a Tucson supermarket.
